He made his first-class debut against England Lions at Abu Dhabi in 7 December 2016 and he took 4/48 and 8 for 74 and scoring 25 not out runs and 52. In September 2017, he signed with Adelaide Strikers to play in the BBL Season 2017-18.
In the same year he was named to play for the Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League 2018 player draft. In the IPL Season 2017, he was brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad with the IPL Price 4 Crore. Rashid made his IPL debut in the opening fixture of the 2017 Season, taking 2 wickets, as the Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 35 runs.

Rashid Khan International Career
On 10 March 2018, the Second T20 Match, He took his maiden T20 5 Wickets haul against Ireland. He became the first player to take a five-wicket haul in 2 over’s in a Twenty20 match. In the One Day International Series against Ireland, he took six wickets in the same ODI Match. He made his test debut against India on 14 June 2018.
In January 2018 ICC Board has named him as the Associate Cricket of the year. In the same month he was selected as the stand-in captain of the Afghanistan team for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
